MAX. FUNDING
PER PROJECT

The Prototype Fund supports ideas in civic tech, data literacy, data security, and software infrastructure. With a grant of up to €47.500, software developers, hackers, and creatives can write code and develop innovative open source prototypes over a period of six months. The Prototype Fund is funded by the Federal Ministry for Research and Education of Germany.

In addition to the topics civic tech, data security, data literacy and software infrastructure, this fourth call goes out to projects with the focus:

Power to the users – more sovereignty, security and trust through open source tools.

In particular, we call for submissions in the following areas:

  • Digital tools that promote self-determination.
E.g. tools and services that help to increase transparency around the collection of user data and the usage of it, such as applications that allow the user to easily adapt, control and change privacy settings.

  • Secure tools that build trust. E.g. Communities and projects that build trust, through transparent and open practices that protect user privacy. For example, software to facilitate secure communications.

  • Open Source projects for a free and open internet.

You can find additional info and examples here.
